Automated adjusting power of laser diodes

As next step, the ability of the device to automatically adjust the laser diodes’ power in agreement with the overall intensity of the displayed contents was tested. A dynamic sequence of a rotating “PCO” logo was displayed and the system adjusted the light intensities in R, G, B channels accordingly, so that the apparent brightness and color of the image

Eye accommodation vs projected image distance

PCO team elaborated test methodology of the display, designed in a manner to examine parameters of projected image. Most important parameter to verify is projected image virtual distance as perceived by human observer, as it guarantees the lack of eye accommodation while switching between virtual and real image. For this purpose a distance assessment device utilizing a Raspberry Pi camera

COVID-19: HANEDA Display test over-the-internet

PCO team has created a sample application that allows to display up to 2 selected images (which may be provided in PNG, JPEG or Windows Bitmap formats) using the HANEDA device in real time. The application prepares configuration frames and sends image data for selected images, automatically enabling RLE compression when either of the image dimensions exceeds 1024 pixels. When

Calibration with a game-pad controller

One of the scientific goals of the Project was to use the interactive calibration routine for the assessment of the faults of the user’s eyesight. This procedure has been successfully implemented in the project and has allowed for the coarse measurement of the user’s spherical and cylindrical discrepancies from the fine-tuned system (pre-calibrated with high-quality, reference objective lens). The procedure

New Laser Diodes driver

The laser diodes driver will get a new feature that allows to synchronize with Liquid Crystal state. Liquid Crystal cells in Spatial Light Modulator have a flicker which have a impact on the diffractive efficiency. The new driver will allow to synchronize with a proper LC cell position and state.

Heat map of custom designed radiator

The work is still going on. Custom designed binoculars are on the construction. The custom radiators are designed and heat transfer analysis was provided. When all elements will be ready the whole system will be launched with the ability to use it on head.

First color projection in HANEDA setup

We have full color projection in HANEDA setup! In time multiplexing method one of three laser diodes is turned on only precisely during single displayed frame. It means that we achieved synchronization between calculation engine, display engine and laser diodes driver at level single milliseconds! Photos of images in screen and AR modes:

Successful display 4k signal from embedded system

Today we successful achieved UltraHD – 4k display resolution from embedded system. Our embedded system is ultra low power device. It consumes no more than 15W and is able to calculate and display holograms in quasi-real time. That results allow us to display and control each frame with frame rate 60Hz.

Diffraction-limited display achieved from the SLM for the first time

The reduction of optical aberrations of the SLM has led to the best possible quality of displayed images, which is now only limited by the physics. This is referred to as “diffraction-limited imaging”. As a result we have achieved extremely high agreement between the numerical simulations and experimental projections.
